Week 16 of the Hundred Miles Project moved learners further into real-world digital and numerical reasoning as they worked through this stage's assessment paper, alongside a hands-on session focused on the bullion stitch and French knot. In the Literacy module, participants read a passage on how smartphones now let people receive orders, send messages, and find information within seconds, drawing a comparison between a phone's importance to home-based workers and that of a needle and thread, before writing a paragraph arguing why digital skills matter for their own community. The Numeracy section introduced decimals through everyday mobile-use scenarios, asking learners to calculate annual recharge costs, weekly data usage over a month, and remaining battery life expressed as a fraction of hours used. Digital Literacy pushed into spreadsheet basics, with learners searching and writing down information about spreadsheets, creating a table on Google Sheets, and sharing a screenshot with the facilitator.

In the hands-on session, learners returned to the bullion stitch and practised the French knot, both finer, more textured techniques that build on the stitching foundation laid in Week 14. Several learners needed repeated attempts to get the bullion stitch's wraps even, while the French knot came together more quickly once the wrist motion was demonstrated a second time. Together, the week's assessment and stitching practice reinforced a consistent theme: building precision and confidence, whether with a needle or a phone. Next week's session will build on both threads of progress.
