Week 1 of the Hundred Miles Project session opened on a note of curiosity and quiet enthusiasm, as learners settled into the rhythm of the programme’s three core modules alongside a hands-on craft activity.

In the Literacy module, the group was introduced to nouns, with the session’s assessment focusing on identifying and using naming words correctly. Learners engaged actively with the exercise, laying an important foundation for the grammar work that will follow in later weeks.

The Numeracy module centred on questions drawn from the Class VI syllabus prescribed by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, giving learners a sense of where their current mathematical understanding stood against school-level benchmarks. Priyanka stood out as the strongest performer in this module, demonstrating a confident grasp of the concepts covered.

In Digital Literacy, learners took their first steps into using Microsoft Word, learning to open the application, browse its ready-made templates, create a new blank document, and type their own names into it — a simple but meaningful milestone in building comfort with digital tools.

The session’s hands-on component saw learners creating a “chandmala” using colourful craft paper, guided patiently by facilitator Adrita Das. The activity was well received, with learners enjoying the creative, tactile break from classroom-style learning. Notably, Priyanka and Susmita also received payment for embroidery work they had submitted, a welcome recognition of the practical skills they continue to build outside the session itself.

Overall, Week 1 struck a strong balance between foundational learning and hands-on engagement, setting a positive and motivating tone for the weeks ahead.
