Week 17 of the Hundred Miles Project moved learners into more composition-focused territory as they worked through this stage's assessment paper, alongside a hands-on session dedicated to the buttonhole stitch. In the Literacy module, participants read about a woman who kept an evening notebook, recording what she learned, what she found difficult, and one goal for the next day, and drew strength from rereading old entries whenever she felt discouraged; learners then wrote their own short journal entry reflecting on the day's session, echoing that same habit of recording progress. The Numeracy section returned to piece-rate and productivity reasoning, asking learners to work out a machine's hourly output, project that rate across a six-day working week, and calculate the resulting earnings at a set price per piece. In Digital Literacy, learners took on a creation-based task, using a presentation or poster-making app to build a one-slide summary of what they had learned over the month, complete with a title, three key points, and an image from their gallery, before sharing the finished slide with the facilitator.

In the hands-on session, learners practised the buttonhole stitch, a technique valued for finishing raw edges neatly and adding decorative borders to their work. Many found keeping even spacing between stitches the trickiest part at first, though tension and rhythm improved steadily with repetition. Peer facilitator Susmita Samajder got paid for making beautiful jewellery using embroidery on metallic earring and pendant hoops. Across all strands of the day, the session reflected a shared emphasis on building durable, presentable finishes, whether in a written journal entry, a digital slide, or a stitched edge. Next week's session will build on this foundation.
