Kankinara Faculty Training Report (26th July 2026)

Week 14 of the Hundred Miles Project carried a steady, focused energy, as learners worked through this stage's assessment paper across all three modules alongside the week's embroidery class. In the Literacy module, participants read a short passage about a young woman who struggles with reading for weeks before finally reading a full story aloud to her younger sister, a narrative that invited learners to connect the character's perseverance to their own progress before writing a short story of their own about mastering something difficult. The Numeracy section moved into new territory, introducing profit and loss through cloth buying and selling scenarios and giving learners their first structured exposure to fractions, framed through practical examples such as measuring remaining cloth and simplifying simple fractions. In Digital Literacy, learners took their first steps into email, reading a received message, summarising it in their own words, and composing a short message addressed to the facilitator, which prompted useful reflection on how email differs from the WhatsApp communication they already use daily.

Alongside the assessment, the embroidery class focused on four stitches: satin, bullion, French knots, and chain stitch, giving learners a broader stitching vocabulary for more intricate patterns going forward. Several learners found the bullion stitch the most demanding of the four, while satin and chain stitches came more naturally with practice. The session reflected the steady, real-world grounding that has defined this phase of the programme, connecting classroom learning directly to the group's everyday work. Next week will build on today's stitch practice by combining techniques into a single composite embroidery pattern.
