Kankinara Faculty Training Report (2nd August 2026)

Week 15 of the Hundred Miles Project saw learners continue steadily through this stage's assessment paper, even as the week's embroidery class had to be cancelled after the instructor was unable to arrive due to inclement weather. In the Literacy module, participants read a short passage about a community that came together after a flood, sharing food, water, and shelter before rebuilding together, and reflected on the experience by writing their own six to seven sentence story about a time their own community helped one another. The Numeracy section built directly on the previous week's introduction to fractions, asking learners to add simple fractions, work out what portion of a task remained after part of it was finished, and convert familiar decimals into their fraction equivalents, all framed through relatable, work-based examples. Digital Literacy moved into media literacy, with learners watching a short news video online, learning to recognise signs of fake news, and reflecting on why verifying information before sharing it matters, alongside a teach-back task asking participants to design a simple checklist their own students could use to judge whether a news story is trustworthy.

With the hands-on embroidery session unable to go ahead this week, learners' full attention stayed with the three assessment modules, and the group's engagement with the fractions and media literacy material in particular stood out as a highlight worth carrying into upcoming sessions. Next week, the embroidery class will resume, and the facilitators plan to briefly recap the satin, bullion, French knot, and chain stitches from Week 14 before introducing new stitch work, ensuring the cancelled session does not disrupt learners' progress.
