Therefore : $[p^2(1+q)^2-4(1-q+\frac{p^2}{2})(q(q-1)+\frac{p^2}{2})=0$

Simplifying : $p^{4}+p^{2}(1+q)^{2}+4 q(1-q)^{2}=0$

take $p^2=z$ and solve for $z$
