    Q. The polynomial  ax^3 + bx^2 + cx + d  has integral coefficients  a,b,c,d .  If ad is odd and bc is even, show that at least one root of the polynomial is irrational.

     

    This question is from AMTI junior 1. In both the book's solution and the solution online(enclosed), the transformation  β=aα is applied. So in which type of questions is this transformation applied.
